On this motorcycle tour through Nepal on the way to Mustang, we start in Kathmandu, Nepal's capital, which lies in the middle of a valley at the foot of the Himalayas. You will be transferred to your hotel in Thamel center. A visit to the medieval district of Durbar Square (the Palace Square), an architectural wonder and UNESCO World Heritage Site, is planned for a cultural introduction to the country. We then drive about 3 hours in a comfortable car to Nuwakot where our bikes are already waiting for us. Warm up ride and adjustments are planned today. Overnight stay in a cozy resort.
Mustang, known locally as the Kingdom of Lo, has a history that stretches back centuries. Its strategic location on the ancient trade route between Tibet and India made it a significant center for commerce and culture. The region was an independent kingdom until the 18th century when it was annexed by Nepal. However, the influence of Tibetan culture is still palpable, with the local language, religion, and architecture bearing a strong resemblance to Tibet.
The last King of Mustang, Jigme Dorje Palbar Bista, was a revered figure until the monarchy was abolished by the Government of Nepal in 2008. Despite this, the cultural and historical identity of Mustang remains intact, offering a glimpse into a bygone era.
